Kristen Stinson: Stewardship Over Authority

There is a well-known idea that no person and no leader is an island entirely of itself. The most meaningful leadership is never built in isolation, but in relationship: through influence rather than authority, responsibility rather than title, and a deep commitment to creating space where others can belong and succeed.

Kristen Stinson embodies this belief. As Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer at Regency Fireplace Products, Kristen approaches leadership not as a position of power, but as a responsibility to elevate others. She understands that true impact is measured not only by outcomes, but by how people are supported, challenged, and empowered along the way.

For Kristen, well-being is not a benefit, it is a leadership commitment. Technology is not a substitute for judgment or character, but a tool that, when used thoughtfully, strengthens transparency, access, and connection. At the heart of her leadership philosophy is a simple truth: surround yourself with people who challenge and support you, lead with intention, and remember that leadership is not about perfection it’s about impact.

It is our privilege to introduce Kristen Stinson.

A Foundation in Human Resources, Leadership, and Organizational Excellence

Kristen holds a Master of Arts in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Work, Organization, and Leadership from Athabasca University. She also earned a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations, specializing in Labour Relations, further strengthening her expertise in workforce strategy and employment relations.

Her formal education is complemented by multiple professional diplomas and certifications, including a Certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of Alberta and a Certificate in Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene from Keyano College. Kristen has also completed certifications in Health and Physical Education/Fitness through YMCAfit and Long-Term Care Administration and Management from Thompson Rivers University.

This diverse academic foundation reflects her holistic approach to people leadership integrating human resources, health and safety, organizational leadership, and well-being to support sustainable, high-performing workplaces.

People at the Center of Performance

Kristen’s professional journey has been guided by a deep belief that people are the true power behind any organization. Throughout her career, she has worked at the intersection of culture, leadership, and performance, helping organizations grow by building environments where individuals experience both belonging and accountability.

She was drawn to Regency Fireplace Products because of the organization’s strong character, its respect for craftsmanship, commitment to integrity, and belief that how leaders show up matters just as much as what they achieve. In her role as Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, Kristen has the privilege of shaping a people strategy that unlocks potential, builds trust, and drives sustainable success.

This recognition is both humbling and deeply meaningful to her. Personally, it affirms the importance of leading with character and remaining grounded in values, even when the work is complex or challenging. Professionally, it reinforces her belief that leadership is not defined by title or authority, but by influence, responsibility, and the ability to create space for others to belong and succeed. For Kristen, true impact is measured by how leaders elevate others not solely by what they accomplish themselves.

Building Cultures Where People and Performance Thrive

Kristen recharges by reconnecting with what grounds her spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, playing soccer, attending yoga classes, and creating moments of quiet reflection. These practices help her remain centered and intentional, which she believes is essential to leading with clarity and purpose.

She has been most influenced by leaders who demonstrated quiet confidence, moral courage, and a genuine care for people. Through their example, Kristen learned that strong leadership is rooted in character doing the right thing, even when it is difficult or unpopular. These influences shaped her conviction that true belonging is created when leaders lead with consistency, fairness, and humanity.

“Own your power. Leadership begins the moment you stop waiting for permission”

Elevating Others Through Purpose-Driven Leadership

Kristen believes that attracting and retaining talent requires more than competitive compensation. She is focused on creating an environment where people feel valued, connected to purpose, and empowered to grow. This includes investing in leadership capability, providing clear pathways for development, and ensuring leaders understand their responsibility in fostering both belonging and accountability. In her experience, when people feel seen and respected, they stay and they perform at their best.

For Kristen, diversity, equity, and inclusion are foundational to building strong organizational character. She works to embed DEI into leadership expectations, talent processes, and decision-making frameworks. Inclusion, she emphasizes, is ultimately about power who has a voice, who feels heard, and who has access to opportunity. Her goal is to cultivate a culture where differences are respected, and where everyone feels they belong and can contribute fully.

“Your perspective matters. Step forward with character, courage, and conviction.”

Aligning talent, safety, and business outcomes

Kristen is a senior people and culture executive with more than 15 years of progressive leadership experience across manufacturing, energy, forestry, and industrial sectors. Currently serving as Senior Vice President & Chief People Officer at Regency Fireplace Products, she leads enterprise-wide strategies spanning people and culture, health and safety, global human resources, technical services, and organizational effectiveness.

Throughout her career, Kristen has built and led high-performing teams while overseeing complex HR portfolios, including workforce strategy, employer branding, HR budgeting, safety and environmental programs, and large-scale change initiatives. Her leadership journey includes executive roles at Fireplace Products International, bp, and Conifex Timber Inc., where she consistently strengthened governance, enhanced employee experience, and aligned people strategies with business performance.

Known for her pragmatic, values-driven approach, Kristen is deeply committed to fostering inclusive, safe, and empowering workplaces. She brings a strong operational mindset to people leadership ensuring that culture, capability, and compliance work together to support sustainable growth and long-term organizational success.

“Surround yourself with people who both challenge and champion you — growth lives in that balance.”

Creating Space So Others Don’t Have to Fight to Belong

Kristen approaches well-being as a leadership commitment rather than a benefit. For her, this means intentionally creating psychologically safe environments, supporting mental health through accessible resources, and encouraging sustainable ways of working. She believes that when leaders model balance, empathy, and self-awareness, they give others permission to do the same. In her view, well-being strengthens both people and performance, which is why Regency supports flexible work arrangements, wellness initiatives, and a family-first approach.

As a woman in senior leadership, Kristen has experienced moments where her voice had to be earned rather than assumed. Those experiences sharpened her resilience and reinforced the importance of leading with confidence and clarity. They also deepened her commitment to creating environments where others do not have to fight for belonging. Her leadership style is shaped by strength, empathy, and an unwavering belief in fairness.

“Leadership isn’t about being perfect; it’s about creating meaningful impact.”

Fostering Growth, Trust, and Inclusion

Some of the most meaningful moments in Kristen’s career have occurred during times of change, when clarity, transparency, and trust were essential. She has learned that making decisions rooted in values, even under pressure, strengthens alignment and reinforces organizational culture. These experiences have reaffirmed her belief that character-driven leadership builds credibility and long-term impact.

Kristen also recognizes the role of technology in enhancing leadership with insight and intention. Thoughtfully applied, it provides data for informed decision-making, tools to improve connection, and systems that support consistency and fairness. In her view, when technology is used intentionally, it strengthens belonging by improving access, transparency, and communication across the organization.

“Belong where you don’t have to shrink to fit in. The right environment strengthens your voice.”

Shaping Cultures Where Talent Thrives

Kristen believes that AI and digital tools will enhance leaders’ ability to anticipate needs, personalize development, and make more informed decisions. However, she emphasizes that technology should never replace human judgment or character. In her view, the future of talent management belongs to leaders who combine digital intelligence with emotional intelligence and ethical leadership.

She encourages others to own their power and lead with character. Kristen advises seeking environments where one can belong without compromising authenticity, stepping into leadership without waiting for permission, and valuing the perspectives one brings. Surrounding oneself with people who both challenge and support you, she believes, is essential because true leadership is measured by impact, not perfection.
